It's so sad when friendships die out because of the miles between them. I love the friends I have, who I know no matter what, we are able to pick up right where we left off as if a day hasn't passed.
Living out of state, only a few hours from friends and family, has really tested the relationships with the people in my life. Those who wanted to remain in my life, have, and those who didn't care to, have slowly drifted away over the 4.5 years I have lived here.
I know I am guilty of letting some of my friendships fall by the wayside and one of my new year's resolutions is to strengthen my friendships. After a few failed attempts to contact my old "close" friends, I have started to feel a little discouraged.
My mama says as we get older....people change...interests change...priorities change...lives change...therefore friendships change. She always told me growing up that it is better to have a few close (true) friends than to have multiple friends with whom there really isn't true bond with.
That is so true. After my divorce, I definitely learned who my real friends were. That life-changing event really affected me and the relationships I had with the people in my life.
It is interesting that my long time friend, A.L., whom I haven't seen since high school and now lives in Australia, and I talk more often than I do with some of my childhood best friends.
I am saddened by this. I am not angry. Simply disappointed. But, that is life. People come and go, in and out of our lives for different reasons. I just pray that God has a plan for all those reasons.

Serenity Prayer
- I love this prayer. It really helps me get through challenging and sometimes hurtful times in life. I wanted to post this, because I know a few people in my life who are experiencing some tough situations.
- God,
- Grant me the serenity;
- To accept the things I cannot change;
- The courage, to change the things I can;
- And the wisdom, to know the difference.
- Living one day at a time;
- Enjoying one moment at a time;
- Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
- Taking, as He did, this sinful world
- As it is, not as I would have it;
- Trusting that He will make all things right
- If I surrender to His Will;
- So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
- And supremely happy with Him
- Forever and ever in the next.
- Amen

Every woman wants to be "the one"
"After he left, I cried for a week, and then I realized I do have faith....faith in myself...faith that I would one day meet someone who would be sure...that I was the one." - Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City.

daily reflection
I have been doing a lot of personal reflection lately. About love...life...my future...my career....my family...
My mind can't seem to stop.
During the day, my mind is racing from one project to another at work.
In the evening, while at home, I am contemplating moving...wondering...is motherhood in my future?...will I ever get married again?...when will I finish my Masters degree?....where will I go from here?
For the first time in years, my life is not "planned out." This has definitely been a learning experience for me.
I tell myself every day to slow down, breathe and simply enjoy each day as it comes. Easier said than done though, right?
I think it's time to start yoga again. :)

Chances vs. Guarantees
Chances slip away while you're looking for guarantees.
A friend of mine posted this on Facebook and I thought I'd share it.
Too often we are in search of guarantees that we don't see the chances in front of us.
Sometimes you just have to bet on a chance, because nothing in life is guaranteed.
So, take a chance on love...a new job...a big move...a house...
Put trust in a chance. If you fall, get up, dust yourself off, learn the lesson from that experience, and move forward.
Life is full of chances and opportunities...don't let them slip away, because you're blinded by the need for guarantees.
