So, I was flipping through the channels on TV and came across a Christian talk show about love and marriage.
It was a show where a Pastor, Mark Gungor, gives advice about marriage.
I thought, what the hey, I'll watch it. It'll be good research for my Marriage & Sexuality grad class final paper about the qualities of a successful marriage.
It turned out to be very interesting....and funny.
I loved the Pastor. He was great. His sermons could definitely hold my attention in church. It was educational and helpful...even in my own life.
Here are some of the highlights of the things I found most interesting.....
1. "Sex while dating makes you dumb - it clouds your mind...your judgement." Hence the reason why many marriages suffer after only a few months/less than a year, b/c the couple didn't really know each other. They think they are "in Hell."
2. "Sex is like the novocaine of marriage (LOL)....it helps hold a marriage together. Where as sex while dating can destroy your relationship."
3. "Sex creates an invisible bond when you're dating."
4. "Dating is your time to make a judgement call - is this the person I will/could marry?"
5. "Dating is a time of discovery - everything is fair game. Ask all the questions you want...you want to know what you're getting into before you get married." Why wait until you're married to be brave enough to ask the tough questions? "You should be looking at everything." "Date intelligently" - don't be embarrassed to ask your questions.
6. "He doesn't want to marry you, but he wants to have sex with you? Run.''
7. "The greatest gift a woman can give to a man is her body. The greatest gift a man can give to a woman is his freedom. If he isn't willing to give you his gift, then don't give him yours. Don't settle."
8. A real man honors his commitment to his wife and children.
9. "Talk about your concerns in your relationship when you're dating (i.e. porn), don't wait until you're engaged or married to address them."
10. "If he's unwilling to share something with you that you ask about, and replies with "you can't control me" or "it's none of your business, we're not married" - walk away. He's hiding something. Don't settle.
While of course, I know not everyone will agree with the statements made above from the show, but I just wanted to point out some of the things the Pastor mentioned that made me giggle and seriously think about.
If this has sparked your interest or you want to check it out further.....
